It’s hard to believe Bonfire Night is nearly upon us. It doesn’t seem like two minutes have passed since we were left damp and disenchanted with the dreary British summer. And yet, here we are, headlong into autumn. The heating’s on, the nights are dark, and talk has turned to Guy Fawkes, sparklers and fireworks.

The clocks have gone back and the cold snaps keep on coming. On go the scarves, hats and gloves to keep warm. But what about that exposed bit you can’t cover up and is open to the elements and autumn chill? Your skin…

There’s so much going on that it’s easy to forget your face. But given its constant openness to the air, whatever the weather, it’s one area of your body you ought to pay special attention to this autumn.

Planning to spend a few hours beside a bonfire in the cold night air? This is what you need to know to stop bonfire night being bad for your skin…

Stay hydrated

The skin is the largest organ in the body and it takes a lot to keep it in tip-top condition. Help it along when the cold nights creep in. Drink plenty of water to fend off flakes and dryness,  while plumping your skin’s appearance.

Exfoliate

Slough off the dead skin on your face and body with a good quality exfoliator during the autumn and allow new skin cells to replenish and refine your skin’s appearance. Give your complexion an instant boost and prepare your face and body for better moisturiser absorption and effectiveness. As well as protecting it from the cold climate.

Consider a Serum

Your skin’s natural barrier is forced to work twice as hard when you’re flitting between centrally heated rooms, open fires and the cold night air. It’s no wonder we often experience dry skin and soreness at the latter end of the year. A good skin serum, packed with natural oils and ingredients will feed your cells and keep your face supple and flake-free.

Don’t forget your lips!

Chapped lips go hand in hand with the change in weather. Invest in a good lip balm and use it liberally before you head out on Bonfire Night – and again when you get home.

Include supplemental oxygen in your skincare regime

Remember that what happens on the inside of your body is reflected on the outside. So it stands to reason that taking supplemental oxygen as part of your daily skincare routine will be of benefit. Oxygen is the primary driver for cell production, so boosting your intake of pure oxygen can strengthen the skin’s elasticity, as well as reducing fine line and wrinkles.

So when you’re wrapping up warm to watch the fireworks, make sure you take care of your skin too.
