We all recognise how important oxygen is to performance in sport. No matter which sport you participate in, a good oxygen supply is key.

If you’ve ever taken part in exercise you’ll know, as you work harder, you breathe harder, and your heart beats faster. At a basic level this is your body moving more oxygen to the working muscles and removing waste products. The less oxygen that reaches the working muscles, the more waste products accumulate. This is the point where a lack of oxygen can begin to limit performance. 

Supplying more oxygen to the body therefore enables us to work harder, reduces fatigue and supports quicker recovery.

The Power of Supplemental Oxygen

The technical term for training with a surplus of oxygen is hyperoxic training. Using supplemental oxygen has been recognised in sports performance for decades. It is recorded as having been used as early as 1908 by Jabez Wolffe in his English Channel crossing attempt. It has also been notably endorsed by Sir Roger Bannister, who wrote about it following his 4-minute-mile record setting race.
