It would be fair to say that for most of us, last year’s Christmas party season was a bit of a damp squib. 2020 – the year that Santa not only donned his bright red suit, but also hand sanitiser, a face mask and surgical gloves. The year that UK newspapers told us Christmas was cancelled and Boris begged us to stay home.

So this year, the festive season brings with it a certain amount of pent-up party energy. 365 days on from celebrating with our relatives over Zoom, most people’s plans include meeting up in person, sharing some (very) good times, cracking open a few beers, wine and probably a few spirits, and burning the candle at both ends.

But along with the fun and frolics comes the inevitable fatigue the day after the hooley.

And we all know how that feels.

Say hello to those festive season foes:

  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness
  • Shakiness
  • Irritability
  • Anxiety

Needless to say, the best way to avoid feeling fatigued and overwhelmed this Christmas is to abstain from excesses and get regular sleep. That’s easier said than done though, right?

So, when the dawn damage stirs you from your slumber, give these tried and tested tips a go to beat your festive fatigue.

Quench your thirst

Rehydrate, replenish your electrolytes, boost your vitamin levels and keep liquids topped up throughout the day. Try our favourite recovery drink, made by Ei8ht, to combat the effects of weariness quickly. Other good options are coconut water and sports drinks.

Feed the fire

Eat. Carbs. And plenty of them. Up your blood sugar levels with toast and pasta to kick your tiredness and headaches into touch. And snack on crackers and crisps to settle your stomach.

Crawl back under the covers

Sleep disturbance and poor sleep quality go hand in hand with a night of drinking. While the lack of sleep doesn’t directly cause your headache or overwhelm, it does make it worse. So, head back to bed for some shut-eye.

Breathe oxygen-enriched air

This is key to a speedy recovery from overdoing the party season (or any recovery for that matter). Supplemental oxygen helps relax your blood vessels and boosts the oxygen levels in your blood, to counter fatigue. Pop a can of ClearO2 next to your bed for administration as soon as you wake up.

Exercise

We know, it’s likely to be the last thing you want to do when your head’s spinning. But the endorphins released by heading out for a run or joining a class will jumpstart your system into making you feel better.

So get on your glad-rags, grab a glass and enjoy this year’s party season – you most definitely deserve it!
